Airtel plans to add 8,000 new sites in Maharashtra and Goa in 2018-19

Bharti Airtel has announced plans to further expand its data footprint in Maharashtra and Goa circle during 2018-19. Under its network expansion program – Project LEAP, Airtel plans to add more than 8,000 new sites in 2018-19, along with an addition of more than 4,200 km of optic fibre in the Maharashtra and Goa circle.

With this planned roll-out, the number of Airtel’s mobile sites in Maharashtra and Goa would increase by 25 per cent to 38,000. The addition of fresh optic fibre would extend its fibre backbone to 21,600 km. The network expansion would mean addition of one new site per hour in the said circle.

In 2017-18, more than 7,000 new sites were deployed and more than 2,600 km of optic fibre rolled out in the Maharashtra and Goa circle, which extended Airtel’s mobile broadband footprint to 27,000 towns and villages.

Commenting on the network expansion plans, Rohit Marwha, chief executive officer, Maharashtra and Goa, Bharti Airtel said, “We are committed to offer our customers in Maharashtra & Goa a seamless experience on the best smartphone network. We will continue to invest aggressively in the region and expand our network capabilities with over 38,000 sites by the end of this financial year. With our enhanced speeds, reach and coverage, we also aim to contribute towards the Government’s vision of Digital India.”

  • 4G services on 2300 MHz launched in April 2012
  • 4G services on 1800 MHz added in February 2017
  • Voice over LTE services launched in October 2017
