According to Counterpoint Research, Apple’s premium segment shipments declined by 25 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in October-December 2018. However, its market share in the premium segment stood at 30 per cent, making it the second largest brand after OnePlus.

As per Counterpoint, competition for Apple is expected to increase in 2019 as a result of introduction of Android premium offerings by Chinese brands and aggressive sales and distribution strategy adopted by various competing brands.

The research further highlighted that OnePlus has cemented its leadership in India's premium smartphone segment by recording highest ever shipments during October-December 2018 with 36 per cent market share, followed by Samsung with 26 per cent share. Nonetheless, Samsung led the premium market for the complete year 2018.

The overall premium segment grew by 8 per cent YoY for the complete year 2018 and 16 per cent YoY for the quarter ended October-December 2018.
