4G smartphones sales have clocked Rs 6 trillion since the launch of first 4G phone in India: Study
As per a report by techArc, Indian smartphone market has witnessed sale of over 530 million 4G smartphones worth Rs 6 trillion till June 2019 since the launch of the first-ever 4G handset in India in October 2012.
5G smartphones are expected to be launched in India in 2020, with the mass adoption to start towards 2022.
Samsung cornered 28.2 per cent share of 530 million 4G handset sales, followed by Xiaomi 20.7 per cent and Vivo at 11.3 per cent respectively. The other two players in the top 5 most selling 4G smartphones includes Oppo at 7.8 per cent and Lenovo and Motorola combined at 6.2 per cent sales contribution.
China origin brands has lead the Indian 4G smartphone market with 54.3 per cent share in the overall sale, followed by global brands with a 36.5 per cent.
Whereas, domestic brands sold 9.2 per cent of 4G smartphones, which was largely driven by Reliance Retail’s Lyf smartphones and JioPhone feature phone.
As per the report, during the period, 49 per cent of the phones were sold in basic (Rs 5,001- Rs 10,000) category, followed by mid category (Rs 10,001 – Rs 25,000) with 40 per cent. While, premium (Rs 25,001 – 50,000) sold 6 per cent of 4G smartphones.
Further, entry-level smartphones (up to Rs 5,000) constituted 4 per cent of the overall handsets sold, while ultra-premium category (above Rs 50,000) was at 1 per cent share of the market.
