India sees a 26 per cent increase in cyber attacks during July-September 2019, says Subex
According to a report prepared by Subex, there has been a 26 per cent increase in cyber attacks in India. Among all the regions in the country, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru together accounted for roughly 38 per cent of all attacks during July-September 2019.
As per the report, smart cities, financial services and transportation sectors saw the maximum number of cyber attacks during the period under consideration.
The report highlighted that malware of varying degrees of sophistication are being reported from a range of deployments, including new projects surrounding renewable energy. Moreover, the detection of malware connected with critical infrastructure projects has also registered an increase.
Further, while 36 per cent of the malware detected can be traced to sources on the Dark Web, around 14 per cent of malware couldn't be traced to a known source suggesting the arrival of new actors and malware shops.
The report noted that independent hackers are increasingly feeling the need to monetise cyber attacks as the unit cost of malware has risen in the last quarter.
