US Dept of Commerce allows Microsoft to export mass-market software to Huawei

News , November 22, 2019

As per Microsoft Corp., the US Department of Commerce has granted its request for a license to export mass-market software to China-based Huawei. Though it is still unclear as to how mass-market is defined in the license. Microsoft sells Windows and Office software to Huawei.

In May, the US added Huawei to an entity list to block US companies from selling components to it, citing national security concerns. The entity listing requires US firms to get a government license to sell to blacklisted firms.

Recently, the U.S. administration had stated that it would allow some suppliers to restart sales to the Chinese telecom vendor. The Commerce Department had confirmed it had begun issuing licenses for some companies to sell goods to Huawei.
