BSNL approaches DoT as Airtel threatens to disconnect its customers
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has sought the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) intervention after being threatened by Bharti Airtel to disconnect BSNL’s customers.
As per Airtel, it would disconnect BSNL’s customers if it fails to treat Airtel and Tata Teleservices’ consumer mobility business as a merged entity.
As per BSNL, Airtel has cited a telecom tribunal order as the basis of operationalising the merger. Further, in its letter to DoT, BSNL has stated that while Airtel wants it to operationalise the merger, it has not provided DoT’s letter taking the same on record.
Since the DoT has not yet taken on record the merger of Bharti Airtel and Bharti Hexacom with the demerged mobility business of Tata Teleservices, BSNL has sought direction from the government.
